MUMS the Word

It is that time of year all across the state of texas where girls are sporting the biggest Mums they can possibly wear for highschool homecoming...For those of you who do not know, mums are these huge fake flower looking things that can have ribbons on them, BELLS on them, and a whole lot of other things. Aparently, the boys buy mums for the girls and the girls buy these garder things for the boys..We did not have this tradition at my highschool (or any school that i knew of), so I am learning as I go. I wish i had a picture of these things to show you...I am talking HUGE...some of them were so big that girls were complaining that their neck's hurt...I mean, we are talking basketball size...But the winner of the "best Mum contest" in my book...was the girl who had one big sash on and there were about four mums to cover her entire sash. I am sure there is a reason that I don't know why they do this...if anyone knows, please share..It did however make for an amusing day at school for me...

Oh girl, mums and garders were so the thing all through middle and high school for me. In MS we had football buddies and we'd bake them cookies and get them garders and they'd get us big ol' mums! In HS it was so embarrassing not to have a mum each week for the Friday peprallies and games. My senior year, after taking a stand that meant a loss of most of my friends, my sweet parents bought me a gorgeous double mum for the homecoming game! You may have quiet a few opportunities to reach out to the mum-less girls throughout the season. :) ag
